Start by washing your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that are suitable for curly hair. Gently massage your scalp and rinse thoroughly.
While your hair is still damp, apply a generous amount of leave-in conditioner or curl cream to help hydrate and define your curls.
Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently detangle your hair, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots.
Lean forward and flip your hair over so that it falls in front of your face. This will help encourage volume at the roots and prevent flatness.
Lay a microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt flat on a surface, such as a bed or countertop, with the sleeves facing you.
Carefully lower your head and hair onto the towel or T-shirt so that your curls are gathered in the center of the fabric.
Using the ends of the towel or T-shirt, gently fold the fabric over your hair to cover it completely.
Tie the sleeves or ends of the towel or T-shirt together at the nape of your neck to secure the plop in place. Make sure it's not too tight or too loose.
Allow your hair to plop for 20-30 minutes to allow the fabric to absorb excess moisture and encourage curl formation.
Carefully untie the towel or T-shirt and gently release your hair from the plop. Avoid touching or disturbing your curls too much to minimize frizz.
